Day County wind project to be dedicated
Basin Electric and NextEra Energy Resources will dedicate the Day County wind project southeast of Groton, SD on June 22, 2010 at 10:30 a.m.

On June 22, the Day County wind project, southeast of Groton, SD, will be dedicated. The dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the Groton Community Center.
Construction on the project began in October 2009 and on April 7 the 99-megawatt wind project began commercial operation. It’s owned and operated by NextEra Energy Resources. Basin Electric has committed to purchasing the entire production from the project; however, during the first three years of operation the electricity produced will be sold to the Western Area Power Administration, a federal power marketing agency.
East River Electric Power Cooperative, Madison, SD, constructed nine miles of new transmission line to connect the wind project to the grid.
