Hair starts flying as dozens of Basin Electric employees and Bismarck-Mandan community members lose their locks to clippers and scissors during the St. Baldrick's event held on St. Patrick's Day. The boardroom at Headquarters quickly fills with shavees and individuals excited to see their friends and co-workers lose their locks during the March 17 event. Each year, thousands of volunteers shave their heads in solidarity of children with cancer while requesting donations of support from friends and family.
The men, women and children who participated in the 2010 St. Baldrick's fun at Basin Electric raised more than $110,000 (video).
People from all across the world travel to the North Dakota Badlands to take in the scenery and enjoy the Medora Musical. Centered around how Medora came to be and the impact President Teddy Roosevelt had on the state, the storyline of the musical brings audience members back to the days of covered wagons and campfires.
Staying true to their rural roots, Basin Electric and other member cooperatives are making their mark across the rugged Badlands. For three years now, Basin Electric and Touchstone Energy® Cooperatives of Burke-Divide Electric, KEM Electric, McKenzie Electric, McLean Electric and Verendrye Electric are sponsoring the Medora Musical’s Burning Hills Singers (video).
Thousands of people from the U.S.A. and foreign countries gather in October for the annual Norsk Høstfest to celebrate all things Scandinavian and indulge their senses in colorful sights, sounds and tastes.
Basin Electric supports Touchstone Energy® Cooperatives' presence every year at the international Norsk Høstfest in Minot, ND (video). Well-known American entertainers, musicians, comedians, and performers from other countries headline the nightly concerts. Craft artisans, wearing traditional national costumes from their country of origin, delight old and young alike with carvings, knick-knacks, clothing, momentoes, and Røsemaled items. Everywhere you look there is food, food - and more food.
Co-op Day gives members an opportunity to share in recognizing the dedication and commitment demonstrated by cooperatives across the nation through their practice of the cooperative principles. The 2009 Co-op Day celebration will be held at the NISC/NDAREC campus on October 13.
The 2009 Basin Electric Annual Meeting of the Membership will be held Nov. 3-5 in Bismarck. The theme for this year's meeting is "Stability in a climate of change."
