Basin Electric is people:  a workforce of more than 1,900 employees at facilities in North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, and Wyoming. Many of us are shift workers - engineers and maintenance professionals who keep the power plants and other energy facilities running 24/7 supported by a highly skilled team of administrative professionals.

We believe in investing in people. It's why we offer continuing education opportunities to our employees, support services for our members, and a charitable giving program that invests in our communities. It's why we focus on stewardship of the environment, the welfare and health of our employees' and their families, and the security and safety of the facilities in which we work. It's why we call ourselves "the Basin Electric Family."

As a diverse energy supplier, Basin Electric requires educated people who can construct, operate and support coal-based, gasification and renewable energy facilities. Part of our commitment to the future of energy in rural America is the financial support we provide to college programs that train young people to become power plant and energy technicians. 

We support:

1. America's youth through our paid internships program, the summer work program, employee and member student scholarships, and Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day. 
2. Employees and members where they live and work. One way we show our cooperative spirit is through volunteer and donation efforts on a personal and cooperative-wide basis.
3. Community service foundations such as the Missouri Slope Area wide United Way, Salvation Army and Ruth Meier's Hospitality House as well as national charitable campaigns.
4. A safe and secure working environment for all of our employees.
5. Advancement of technology to produce clean, efficient and affordable energy for our members.
6. Training in power plant and related energy technologies to educate the next generation of workers.
