For the fourth consecutive year, Basin Electric and Touchstone Energy Cooperatives® – Burke-Divide Electric, KEM Electric, McKenzie Electric, McLean Electric, Mor-Gran-Sou Electric, Verendrye Electric, Goldenwest Electric, Roughrider Electric and Lower Yellowstone Rural Electric – are sponsoring the Medora Musical’s Burning Hills Singers.
Well renowned for its rugged beauty and its affiliation with former U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt, Medora has become a tourist attraction for many.
“The Medora Musical is a jewel of our region. It draws people from across the country, and abroad and we are glad we can sponsor a good quality family friendly production,” said Emily McKay, event planner/charity giving coordinator.
“I remember about four years ago seeing the Touchstone logo, the rainbow of color and families and kids holding hands and thinking, ‘That represents the same kind of thing we do in Medora: Good family entertainment and a great family venue,’” said Randy Hatzenbuhler, president of the Theodore Roosevelt Foundation. “It was clear by the logo that is what Touchstone valued. I think that is part of the reason why the organizations work well together.”
The Theodore Roosevelt Foundation, as a way to express their appreciation of Basin Electric and Touchstone Energy, is designating July 10 and August 14 as co-op nights. Members of Basin Electric and Touchstone Energy will receive a coupon code to receive 15 percent off the regular ticket price.
The Medora Musical is a favorite tourist attraction, bringing thousands of visitors to this historic western community near the scenic Badlands, a favorite vacation spot of President Teddy Roosevelt.
The Medora Musical boasts a strong history dating back 40 years. Tourists from every state in the union and foreign countries travel to see the two-hour professionally produced musical variety show in Medora's outdoor Burning Hills Amphitheatre.
The Burning Hills Singers are talented performing artists who have professional singing, dancing and clogging expertise. Many of them hail from rural electric cooperative-served communities in addition to those who come from other areas of America.
“We were thrilled that Touchstone Energy® agreed to be one of the major sponsors,” Hatzenbuhler said. “It’s just one of those things that is a win-win, we believe. ... There’s nearly 100 percent identification of the Medora Musical amongst people around this upper Midwest area. So it is just a nice opportunity for both organizations."
